Advice For Budding DPs

The Sony EX3 may finally has a competitor at it’s price point. Only 1/3″ CMOS, but with a few more pro styled features. It should be interesting to see how they stack up head to head. It’s still hobbled with P2 cards though.

It seems the current project I was working on, Sub-Skin, has been delayed indefinitely. We had done a few short scenes, then emails appear calling the whole thing off with no explanation other than they were advised not to explain? Smacks of politics and intrigue…

An interesting budget Wireless Follow Focus is being released soon. Hopefully the Hocus Focus will bring a decent level of quality at a reasonable price, compared to what you can currently get. There are many great WFFs about, but their cost is beyond lower budget productions.

Michael Adante’s new genre pic will have me and my EX3 on sticks and Steadicam. A full 5 weeks shoot, it looks to be very interesting. The script has a few tweaks to make it stand out from your regular genre pic.

I’ve signed on with Elliot Summers as DoP and Steadicam for his short feature demo, “Welcome To Freedom”. Nick Buffalo will be directing it for us, we have Claire Hooper attached. If the script sample is any indication, it should be a fun shoot.
